Common Causes of Diabetes

Diabetes is on the rise, the major causes of diabetes is well known and this disease continues to increase in the U.S., why?

Most people know that the major culprit when it comes to diabetes is diet and exercise. A bad diet and a lack of exercise. There is some validity to the type of lifestyle we are confronted with, but we can't always point the finger at something else, we need to take responsibility at some point.

You don't need me to repeat what is extensively covered on other authority sites, if you want to read them, here they are..

  1. Web MD
  2. Medical News Today
  3. E Medicine Health

You basically get the same information at all three sites. The question is, with all this information available, why do people still suffer?

The first answer is we don't change what's harming us even though we know what it is. If we know fast foods are causing us problems and we keep eating it, then how in the world will we get better? If we are to examine any cause for diabetes lets look at ourselves first.

Why is it we won't change? In some cases it's a rebellious nature. "I don't care what they say, life is to short, I'm going to do what I want", this is one thing you hear from folks. Well, adapting this mindset will make life short, it might make life quite miserable too.

You have to remember a lot of fast food places, even some pretty nice restaurants, sell food for taste, not for nutrition. Hormones, pesticides, farm grown, diseases among the animals, all these things are injected into the things we eat, yet we continue to eat them like there's no tomorrow.

Obesity, which is consider 30 lbs over normal weight, is among the top reasons for diabetes. Just imagine the stress that extra weight puts on you body as well as the toxins you have to process. This is something we all can work on to avert getting diabetes.

It's true, there are many factors from the outside that contribute to diabetes, but include yourself as a leading cause. Then ask the question, why is it so hard to change?

Diabetes and Habits

I can go way out on a limb and loose three quarters of the readers by talking about diabetes and habits. Everybody is not born with diabetes, but I will concede that genetics will increase your chances of getting it.

But, lets admit that were a society that is a bit self indulgent and a little bit defiant. Lets also say that our priorities are slightly out of whack, so what does this have to do with diabetes? A lot, because we have all the information and choices to change direction.

We, as humans, don't like to be told what to do. I'll tell you though, when your in enough pain you will gladly take any advice given, we don't want you getting to that point.

If you have a adventuress mind and want a different point of view of why we rebel against change. Even if it means getting diseases like diabetes, look at the link above, just keep an open mind about it.

Diabetic Testing Supplies

They call diabetes the Silent Killer. This is because people don't know they have it until it's to late. In some cases it becomes fatal, does it have to be this way? No, there are many diabetic testing supplies to warn you before hand.

You really want to pay attention to your body, here's a few supplies available if you get diabetes:

  • Insulin Pumps
  • Syringes
  • Incontinence supplies
  • Diapers
  • Insulin Injections

This is a small list of things you will need if you get diabetes, why not try to prevent having to haul around diapers and needles if you can.

Diagnosing

To determine if you have prediabetes, your doctor can perform two different blood tests – the fasting plasma glucose (FPG) test and the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).

During the FPG blood test your blood sugar level is measured after an 8 hour fast. This laboratory health screening can determine if your body metabolizes glucose correctly. If your blood sugar level is abnormal after the fasting plasma glucose (FPG) test, you could have what's called "impaired fasting glucose," which suggests prediabetes.

Early diagnosis and treatment of prediabetes may prevent type 2 diabetes as well as associated complications such as heart and blood vessel disease and eye and kidney disease.

More than 50 million people in the U.S. over age 20 have prediabetes with blood sugar levels that are higher than normal, but are not high enough to be classified as diabetes.

Don't wait to be classified, do things to prevent this from happening and look a little deeper into diabetes at the Diabetes Diary.

Great information. As diabetes is prevalent in the African American community as well as in my own family, I try to keep in the know. Thanks.
